CALATAGAN BATANGAS | Things had been quite stressful lately at work and I felt as though I needed to go out somewhere again with friends. That is the reason why I organized another beach camp that was budget friendly and very close – only few hours away from Manila.
The question of where to go was a mystery. They suggested Calatagan, but where in Calatagan? With the changing weather, you never know when it’s going to rain or not that’s why it’s best to have a place with proper roof and room just in case pitching a tent would not be possible.
While browsing for our beach camp, I came across this place that I had never heard of in Calatagan. Camp Wagi! I searched the internet to gather more information but not much has been said about this place. Looking at their Facebook page, I liked the way it looked.
To my surprise, I found that for the biggest room for 15 pax, it only cost Php 5000.00 and for any additional person you would only have to pay Php150.00. Pitching a tent is free once you avail of a room. It sounded like a good deal so we immediately made our reservation and a few days after – off we went to our beach camp!
When we arrived at Camp Wagi Resort, we were welcomed by the staff who also managed the resort. The beach is clean, the place was covered in trees creating a very cool feel. As we all know, Calatagan is known for its very shallow waters but the good thing here was a few meters away there is a sand bar which is ideal for swimming.
How to get to CAMP WAGI BEACH RESORT:
1. Take a bus or a van bound at Calatagan Public Market. The Van Terminal is located a few meters away from EDSA Pasay Rotonda at the back of Metro Point. Batangas bus, Jam Liner and DLTB buses are some of the bus carriers which have direct trips going to Calatagan. Travel time takes 3-4hours, consider traffic and congestion along Cavite and Tagaytay so it may take longer than the approximated time.
( Van Fare Manila to Calatagan – Php 360.00 •roundtrip• )
2. Upon arrival at Calatagan Bayan or Town Proper, take a trike going to Camp Wagi Perez Beach Resort. Travel time is 30 minutes. To ensure you have transportation going back to the town and the van/bus terminal, make sure to have arrangements with the trike driver.
( Trike Fare Calatagan Bayan to Camp Wagi-Perez Beach Resort – Php 350.00 •roundtrip• )
Alternative Routes:
If you are coming from Laguna, Alabang, nearby towns you may take a van going to Tagaytay via the Silang-Tagaytay Road and then ride a bus from Tagaytay to Calatagan.

Camp Wagi Beach Resort used to be purely for camping but due to some requests of the guests, they decided to put up a few nipa huts for rent perfect for those with children. There are also cottages available for rent at a good price. Pets are allowed at Camp Wagi Beach Resort!

The room we had was their biggest room which has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen [Rent Php 300.00], videoke [ Php 1000.00], 3 toilets and baths, a long table perfect for any gathering, and 2 fans.
In the end, we felt that we made the right choice of holding our beach camp here. While others will be sleeping in the rooms, others preferred to pitch a tent and decided to sleep under the stars.
If you are in a smaller group, you can rent a smaller cottage which faces the beach.
Who doesn’t love beach volleyball? Whether you are a pro or a beginner, this activity just strengthened the bond with others in the camp. And while others were playing volleyball, others were singing out loud in the videoke and played cards while drinks were being rolled out.
As night time drew closer, it was time for us to pitch the tent. We were very lucky that we’re the only ones in the resort so we were able pitch it wherever we wanted. The sand was nice and fine so we were able to lie down and slept comfortably in our tents.
Pitching a tent is free once you availed a room otherwise you pay Php 250.00 for pitching a tent.

At night time, the atmosphere in the resort totally changed. As they lit their yellow capiz lamps, everyone gathered around, got to know each other, listened to some cool music and much more.
The weather was perfect during our camp that our friend, Amiel Rafael Cosme was able to capture this stunning photo of the Milky Way.

After a fun evening, one of our friends woke up very early and was able to capture this beautiful sunrise in Calatagan.

The next day was the time we had a chance to swim. The tide was high, the water was calm, and the weather was perfect for that golden tan.
Our friend JR Casco also decided to fly his drone and captured such a beautiful shot of the coast.

If there is one place to get that IG worthy , it would be on these trees. The branches spread out in different directions which also creates pleasant shade and a great backdrop for photo shoots which is always part of the trip.
My friends know very well. Lol..

It was time for us to check out but can I just say that this was one of the best beach camps we had in such a long time. As I always remind them, wherever we go, it is better to not set expectations and let the place and mostly the experience leave a great memory with each one.
Staying at Camp Wagi Beach Resort was a great decision. The staff were very accommodating to our needs the whole time; provided us with everything we needed like utensils, linens, blankets and many more which kind of exceeded our expectations. They really went the extra mile for us just to have a great experience. And one of the best parts was, it was BUDGET FRIENDLY!
I’d also like to thank my friends who joined and also who accepted our invitation to join the beach camp. We may all be different in so many ways, but in this camp, we found our common ground. It really was amazing!
